IIDLE

She doesn't do well at an idle, if you idle her too long, she'll stall.
She's at her best at high speeds on the back roads, or climbin' the mountains tall.

If you're not just a Sunday driver, she'll give you the ride of your life.
But the fuel that she burns in her engine, is your ego and your strife.

If you're hittin' the road for the long haul, she's sure to give you her all,
But if you linger around at the start line, she'll be finished before long.

She doesn't do well at an idle!!!

BILLI-JO

Slow down Billi-Jo, I know you don't like to linger,
he pierced your heart with his soul, but there's no ring on your finger.

You'd think that after all this time,
you'd both stop turnin' on a dime.
You'd think that after all these years,
that love would wash away those fears.

Slow down Billi-Jo, I know you don't like to linger,
you pierced his heart with your soul, but there's no ring on your finger.

You think that if you run away,
that it won't be like yesterday.
You're trippin' on the stones of time,
You're losin' in this race, sublime.

Slow down Billi-Jo, I know you don't like to linger,
he pierced your heart with his soul, but there's no ring on your finger
Slow down Billi-Jo, I know you don't like to linger,
you pierced his heart with your soul but there's no ring on your finger.
Slow down, slow down, slow down, slow down.
Slow down......Slow down......
Slow down.  Why ya' goin' so fast?  Slow down, why ya' goin' so fast?

Slow down.
Slow down.
Slow down. woooow......

WHO'S GONNA LOVE YA

You once had a love, you let her go,
on the wind, she blow and blow.
Now you're alone with only your pride,
searchin' for love far and wide.

Who's gonna kiss and hold ya tight? Who's gonna love ya through the night?
Who's gonna kiss and hold ya tight? Who's gonna love ya through the night?

Play is over, curtain's drawn,
that little girl is gone and gone.
This here act ya won't re-play,
Now with your own heart, you must stay.

Who's gonna kiss and hold ya tight?  Who's gonna love ya through the night?
Who's gonna kiss and hold ya tight?  Who's gonna love ya through the night?

Who's gonna kiss and hold ya tight?  Who's gonna love ya through the night?
Who's gonna kiss and hold ya tight?  Who's gonna love ya through the night?
Who's gonna love ya, who's gonna love ya, who's gonna love ya,
Through the night, through the night?

Jill Whitmore: music and lyrics, vocals

Kenny Edwards: raspy gorgeous old acoustic guitar:), acoustic bass guitar, slide guitar.

LIE

Fill the pedestal with flowers, braid pink ribbons in your hair.
Take a walk amongst the roses, he's told you soon that he'll be there.
But he's flyin' high amongst the ladies, drinking gin and tossin' dice.
Satin sheets for this high roller, he won't be comin' home tonight.

Why do people lie,
You can't build anything real upon it.
Why do people lie?

She's bought the lie of propaganda, wears the brands and has the look.
They'll tell her she's a failure if she doesn't take the hook.
We sell through mass seduction, life's easier the more you own.
Better watch your television, better buy a bigger home.

Why do people lie,
we build our industries upon it.
Why do people lie, and why do we buy it?
Why do people lie?

He's bought the lie of separation, fear and anguish in his heart.
On a course to self destruction brainwashed by a poison art.
Schooling, travel and adventure are the lies that he was fed.
War is needed for your safety, you gotta' fight to get ahead.

Why do people lie?
We build our politics upon it.
Why do people lie?  We've built an empire upon it.
Why do people....
Why do people lie?
Why do people lie?

BEGIN AGAIN

I want to know which way is up,
I want to feel I've a half full cup,
I want to get myself out of this spin.
I want to remember how to begin again, begin again!

I want to walk around wearin' a grin,
I want to feel life caressing my skin,
I want to know of the eagles' glide,
I want to take myself on a whole new ride, a whole new ride, a whole new ride!

And I guess in the end, It's better to have loved, it's better to have trusted, it's better to have given it all!

I want to learn a brand new dance,
I want to burn this list of "cant's",
I want to vision myself right out-a this place,
I want to dream a dream that's filled with grace, that's filled with grace, ya, filled with grace!

And I guess in the end, it's better to have loved, better to have trusted, it's better to have given it all.
It's better to have loved, better to have trusted, it's better to haven it all.
Given it all,
Given it all.
Given it all.
Given it all.

I want to know which way is up,
I want to feel I've a half full cup,
I'm gonna get myself out-a this spin.

 WE ALL NEED EACH OTHER

We all need each other, there's no-one who's to blame,
we're all made of the ancient stars, energy - we're the same.

Like a moonlit cloud in a starry sky,
I'm just passin' through,
As sure as that moon shines on me,
I'll be needing you.

We all need each other, there's no-one who's left out,
from the intricate web of the tiniest life, to the ones' who are without.

Like a moonlit cloud in a starry sky,
I'm just passin' through,
as sure as that moon continues to shine,
I'll be needing you.

We all need each-other, everything and everyone,
right here, in this dance of life, and to the sun beyond the sun.

Soft sinewy curve of a horse's back, the brush of her thick mane.
Wildcats' eye, the soft down of its' paw, we're players in this beautiful game,
We're all players in this beautiful game.

In a starry sky, I'm just passin' through,
as sure as that moon continues to shine,
I'll need all of you.
As sure as that moon continues to shine,
I'll need all of you,
As sure as that moon continues to shine,
I'll need all of you, I'll need all of you,
I'll need all of you, I'll need all of you.

BODY NEVER LIES

Honest silence, body never lies,
move in imagination, rest your mind,
let yourself be taken to where Love abides,
to where love abides,
to where love abides.

Love and beauty, ease and grace,
always here, in this place,
just stop what you're doing and say a prayer,
Breathe, light a candle, and you are there,
you are there,
you are there.

Silently perfect, prayers unfolding.
Life, radiating light.
Luminosity, behold, beholding. Luminosity.
Luminosity behold, beholding.  Luminosity.

Jill Whitmore: music and lyrics, vocals, electric piano

Kenny Edwards: gorgeous, gritty slide guitar, cello, acoustic bass guitar

MOTHERS' PRAYER

Wave the flag, hold your head up high,
now is not the time to die.

You were once a little boy,
your only gun was a toy.

She gave you all her love, she raised you with all her love,
and she prays with all her love.

You don't have to live a lie,
your tears are our healing, it's ok to cry.

She gave you all her love, she raised you with all her love,
and she prays with all her love.

Around the world regardless of where, there's no stronger voice,
than a, a mothers' prayer

She gave you all her love, she raised you with all her love,
and she prays with all her love.
I give you all my love, I send you all my love,
and I pray with all my love.

LET HIM FLY

Well there ain't no talkin' to this man, there ain't no pretty "other side",
ain't no way to understand, stupid words of pride.
It would take an acrobat, and I've already tried all that.
I'm gonna let him fly.

Well things can move at such a pace, second hand just wave goodbye,
you know the smile has left his face, but you can't recall just where or why,
There is really nothing to it, I just gonna cut right through.
I'm gonna let him fly.

Well there's no mercy in a live wire, no rest at all in freedom,
the choices we are given are no choice at all.
The proof is in the fire, you touch before he moves away.
But you must always know how long to stay,
and when to go.

Well there ain't no talkin' to this man, he's been tryin' to tell me so,
Took awhile to understand the beauty of just letting go.
It would take an acrobat, but I've already tried all that.
I'm gonna let him fly, I'm gonna let him fly,
I'm gonna let him fly.

Patty Griffin: music and lyrics.

Jill Whitmore: mountain dulcimer, vocals

Kenny Edwards: Electric guitar, acoustic bass guitar, rhythm guitar

DOWN BY THE RIVER

Down by the river, where the cottonwood grows,
there are some secrets that only she knows.
Down by the river alder tree stays.
Roots spread like fingers, her strong body sways.

Down by the river, peppermint grows wild,
and the song of the river is makin' me smile.
Down by the river through timeless time,
lots of hearts have been stolen, and that's where you stole mine.

Down by the river, sun lights a path,
through the rocks and the current, the leaves and the grass.
Down by the river root systems entwined
at waters' edge, in a slow dance through time.

And that sweet river carries the secret of life,
she's at one with all that surrounds her.

Down by the river, where the cottonwood grows,
there are some secrets that only she knows.

Jill Whitmore: music and lyrics, vocals, mountain dulcimer

Kenny Edwards: shimmering electric guitar.  (I'll never forget this moment in studio, indelible on my heart.  I wasn't sure I wanted any other instrumentation on this one, and he smilingly said "let me give it a try".  I sat in absolute awe of the sonic landscape he was able to paint.  In my heart forever, Kenny.  Thank you to infinity and beyond.

Upright bowed bass.  Thank you for your incredible mastery.  As both my engineer, Robinson Eikenberry and Kenny Edwards are looking on from the other side now, I have no way of calling out that incredible bass player.  Eternally grateful for your mastery and effortlessness in studio.

It was so thrilling to create this music and hear it all come to life in studio, in the effortless ways only master musicians in the moment can bring.  Thank you all.  So much love and gratitude.
